Lazy Book Club #7 - Homo Deus by Yuval Noah Harari

  • The Red Lion 41 Hoxton Street London, England, N1 6NH United Kingdom (map)

We've wanted to cover Yuval Noah Harari's 'Homo Deus' for a while now. Earlier in the year we discussed 'Sapiens', which led to an awesome debate on human nature. Now, we want to focus the discussion not on the years that have passed, but on what's ahead for us. As humans... and as strategists.

Under the topic of 'What the future of Humanity can teach us about the future of strategy', prepare for a few hard questions about what we might be doing in the near future. Do we need to be more tech literate or just read more fiction to make sense of the world? Should we become more specialists or focus on applying generalist ways of thinking to complex problems? In a world of infinite information, how do we learn about what to pay attention to and what to ignore? How are we meant to work together in the future? And where do the machines come in?

In itself, Homo Deus is a fantastic primer on what the future might hold for us as individuals. We believe it also teaches us a thing or two about who we might be as professionals.

As usual there’s only 10 spaces, so watch your inbox and RSVP to the email sharpish to nab a seat. The event will be happening at the Red Lion, 7pm on Tuesday 22nd August.

Don’t worry about reading the book unless you want to (it's a Lazy Book Club after all). We’ll just be laying out some of the principle learnings and then open up the conversation for everyone in the room (i.e. the pub table).
